I can only blog and speak from my own personal experience and thats exactly what I was asked to do in a regional forum recently held here in Coffs Harbour on Marriage Equality. I then was lucky enough to have those views presented on 105.5 Hit 1 morning radio and then on our local NBN TV which is Channel 9 and also in our local magazine called Focus. What amazing exposure on what is obviously a very popular and almost controversial subject. In my role as a Civil Celebrant who meets so many couples, they are very much of the opinion –why hasn’t this happened already-the heart-warming part of this for me is that the generation I am mainly marrying like between 20-35 are really not understanding how this is even an issue-they also often have family or friends who are gay so they will often raise the subject of how can I express their beliefs with obviously having to keep the current authorised legal wording which I cannot dilute or change saying “Marriage, according to law in Australia, is the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life”. I am also the proud mother of a gay son so of course this a subject close to my heart-this is not something I tell couples or even discuss as to be professional I am to respect everyone’s opinions and I always remember that each couples weddings is about them too.
So now I am out of the closet on this subject!!! I am lucky to have same sex commitment ceremonies now but I am so excited for the future –I can feel change in the air!!!
